Whenever I meet someone and tell them about India Rose Photography, one of the first questions I get is, "How did you come up with that name?" And if you clicked on this page, you were probably wondering it too. It's not my name, it's not related to my market area, and it has nothing to do with photography; so why India Rose? Well I'm glad you asked!
My family has always been partial to using names that bear some sort of significance....my siblings and I are all named after dear friends and family members. When I was born, my parents gave me my name after 2 aunts and 1 great-aunt. However, at one point, my mom seriously considered (dad wasn't quite so keen on the idea) naming me after a different ancestor, India Rose. And although it's not on my birth certificate, I've always felt a certain attachment to the name.
Previously, my company name reflected my maiden name. So after I got married, I decided it was time to go through a revamp of the business. During that time, my mom's suggestion to consider my "almost name" as my company name just made sense. Almost as quickly as I started to consider that option, I knew what I wanted to do for my logo. I had just come into possession of a painting that my mother had done in high school. A painting of a rose. I have loved the picture all my life, and I knew I could incorporate it into my logo. Everything clicked, and I knew I had found my new name. i It may not be the most traditional approach to things, but it means the world to me to have so much personal significance be part of my company.
